Peaches, RDA star pony – under open skies

Before Peaches came to live with us she was at another RDA Centre. Then I got a call from a friend there who said Peaches was not happy, and they thought she may prefer to live with us. How right they were!

Although her old home was lovely, most of their riding was in an indoor arena – and Peaches is frightened of indoor schools. We don’t know why, and never will, but it’s enough for us to see her fear and respect that if she says no, we don’t need to ask her again. She loves being outdoors, and we can definitely work with that.

Pretty Peaches has a sweet temperament, but is very capable and adaptable too, enjoying racing, jumping, dressage and countryside challenges. The perfect RDA pony, capable of helping riders with physical or mental disabilities achieve so much more than they may imagine possible. Horse therapy at its finest. As long as she has open skies above her, she’s happy. (She makes an exception for the roof in her stable which keeps her warm and dry.)

Peaches recently took part in the RDA regional qualifiers at which riders from across greater London competed against each other – and it takes place outside. Peaches had her chance to shine!

So how did she do? She entered four categories: VI, (visually impaired) section, lead rein section, independent rider section, and leader with side-walker (for riders whose disability requires them to be supported).

She won them all, making her riders and the whole Park Lane Stables team very proud.

Peaches lives at Park Lane Stables but is owned and loved by Anna, who graciously shares her with our RDA riders. So we all get to benefit from her lovely nature, and Peaches gets to spend lots of time out of her stable, which is just how she likes it.

From the very first moment I sat on a pony, I was hooked. I knew there and then that in the saddle was the place I was meant to be.
