Introducing Maggie

Polo ponies are a special type of horse, something we have come to know in more detail thanks to our generous host Pete. It’s physically demanding, so the career of a polo pony is short before they earn a quieter life in retirement.

Maggie had reached the stage where she was struggling to keep up with the pace, so when Pete asked if she would like to come and live with us, how could we say no? She’s currently getting acquainted with her new equine and human companions, and so far is loving the attention.

When a horse has been trained for one thing, there’s no guarantee that they’ll adapt to a different life any more than us humans do. But when the personality is right, the rest can follow with training. So far Maggie is proving to be calm and receptive in the face of new situations, and over the coming months will start her training to see what skills she’ll be able to bring. Ahead of her we can promise lots of care and attention and enough gentle hacking to keep her fit and happy without the rigours of the life she’s leaving behind.
