It’s time I said thank you to Reggie
This pony is just something else. The trust he puts in me is unbelievable. And the moustache is admired by all he meets. (Well, I can’t write about Reggie and not mention it, can I?)
There is nothing he cannot do and he gives everything his all. He is now chillaxing in the field for the summer break, but I just had to tell you how fantastic he is. To give you an example, he recently gave new jockey Ava an exhilarating ride at Wolverhampton racecourse. After a big journey with a sleepover in a new place, then galloping down the track, he was due to have a rest day.
But, I just needed him to be my wing man for a short time to give someone their first experience and he gave it 100% gentleness in the same way he gave 100% on the course the day before. Katherine wanted to ride but she was scared too. After many tears and a lot of patience from Reggie and the team she literally had the ride of her life. Reggie was steady, calm and kind after galloping his heart out the day before.
Versatile with a capital V and kind with a capital K. And no he is not for sale, never ever.
Reggie is really good at show jumping too. Aspiring jockey Max rode him in the RDA regionals and they only missed out on qualifying because he was too fast! They were flying! Reggie also carriage drives but he is so busy with all his other duties we do not ask him to do this too. He’s easy to catch, load, and shoe, and the only thing he hates is being clipped – which explains the origin of that famous moustache.
We were very lucky that Rhianna Blair who coaches us let me buy him. Rhianna bred him and gave him the best start in life. When he was ready for his new home, she asked me first and wasn’t I the lucky one? She knew from his temperament that he would be perfect for us, and he’s taken everything in his stride since. (Except being clipped.)
Did you know that you can adopt Reggie? An annual adoption fee of £20 helps pay for his food, veterinary, farrier and dental needs. Adoption is a fantastic way of supporting the work that we do. Find out more.
