Prodney’s blog: I am a muse

I believe that charisma and gravitas increase with age, in which case I’m off the scale on both counts. It certainly worked when photographer Paul Stuart came to Park Lane Stables to take photographs for a feature about me (with a bit about Natalie and Woody) in the Sunday Times Magazine.

One meeting wasn’t enough. After enthusing about the way the sunlight fell on my noble flanks he decided to visit again to do a series of studies. This shows admirable judgement about the beauty of us horses in general, and me in particular.

And I think this officially adds ‘muse’ to my list of roles in life.

Doesn’t everyone who sees themselves in photographs from years gone by marvel at how they have changed? I for one sometimes forget that I used to be graced with the most marvellous dapple (I know, odd for me to forget something so important).

With Natalie in Birmingham back in the 1990s, in my dappled days

Those noble flanks weren’t always the glorious grey they are now (sometimes with flecks of dried mud, naturally). In my younger days they were dappled (but no less noble), and I could look remarkably like a rocking horse. But dapples are often lost as a horse grows older. If you see a dappled horse, ask the age. I think we can guarantee that the answer won’t be 43.

We have four stunning black and white photographic prints for sale in our shop, but which feature Prodney? See the prints and find out more about Paul Stuart.
